Trip

Alpine Scramble - DeRoux Peak

Lollipop route to summit a Teanaway 20 peak.

  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 9.4 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 2,900 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 6,260 ft
  • Pace: Slow side of moderate

Twenty Nine Pines Campground at 8am.

We will meet to consolidate cars for those who are fully COVID vaccinated and comfortable carpooling, and then caravan ~ 8 miles to the trailhead at the DeRoux campground. Due to the holiday weekend, parking at the trailhead may be limited. NW Forest Pass required to park at DeRoux trailhead.

This is a moderate scramble in a beautiful area. After ascending to the DeRoux-Koppen saddle we will make a counter-clockwise loop by running the SE-E ridge to the DeRoux summit, descending the southwest ridge to meet up with the Middle Fork Teanaway trail, and returning via this trail to the DeRoux-Koppen saddle. This route adds ~400’ gain to the usual route for a total elevation gain of 2,900’. Ice axes may be required depending on conditions at the time of the scramble. More details to be sent to participants a few days prior. This is a mentored trip for Mary Lou Biggs.
