  • Mileage: 6.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 2,500 ft

Alpental parking lot @ 5pm.

As most of you might have been noticing, the mountains are snow, but lots of heat and lots of freeze thaw conditions. There have been smaller avalanche risks, but I would expect the conditions to mellow down by the thursday. The forecast calls for a mostly sunny day

Read About weather forecast, Read and download a GPX track from Alpental TH. Bring a paper map and compass.
Group gear :
Shovel (I'll bring one)
Sleeping bag (need a volunteer)
Sleeping pad (I'll bring one + need another volunteer)
Stove and fuel (need a volunteer)
What experience is required:
We'll need off trail scrambling experience, on steep snow, cramponing experience if you have crampons and excellent ice axe skills. We'll need to move efficiently, considering the weather and not making the group members get cold, while they wait for the rest of the group.
We'll have to move at 800-1000 feet an hour/ 1.5-2 miles an hour - uphill and 1500-1750 feet an hour and 2.5-3 miles downhill to make a successful and safe summit.
Carpooling:
Carpooling is not recommended, also if you are sick or have any of your friends who are sick, please cancel from the trip.
What is the technical part of this trip

We might require crampons on this trip.  The snow before the final chimney moves, might be forming a moat (making it technical enough to navigate). Please come prepared to move quick and help with breaking trail

As in my trips, we will move at a brisk pace, with short and efficient breaks along the way. Please only sign up, if you are in good shape, as day light is limited and turn around time is 7PM on this trip.

Please bring old rain pants and gaiters to glissade.
