Del Campo & Gothic Peaks

Alpine Scramble - Del Campo & Gothic Peaks

This is a strenuous and very technical scramble. Previous T4 or T5 within 12 month span required. Leader recommendations preferred. We'll make a multi ay trip out of this and hike to Foggy Lake to setup camp with the ascent of DelCampo coming soon after. We'll then overnight at Foggy lake and tag Gothic Peak the following day.

From the trailhead, start hiking up the slope where Weeden Creek (Gothic Basin) Trail 724 leaves the Monte Cristo Road at 2400 feet. Enter the Morning Star Natural Resources Conservation Area at 3800 feet. Continue hiking south to the basin between Foggy Lake and Weeden Lake at 5000 feet, called Gothic Basin. Snowbridges to cross on the trail to Gothic Basin can be sketchy before the snow melts completely. Go west over a minor ridge that leads to Foggy Lake at 5300 feet. For much of the year, the lake is frozen. Go around the east side of Foggy Lake on talus or snow. There are many ways up to the summit of Del Campo, which lies a half mile to the northwest, but a good choice starts from the east side of the lake.
