The trip assumes that any clean up of the Monte Cristo mines will not affect access to the Gothic Basin trail. If anybody hears otherwise, please let me know.
Del Campo and Gothic Peaks are located at Barlow Pass on the Mountain Loop Highway. They are both terrific and popular scrambles in a beautiful area that are generally lead separately. Together they present a very long, technical and strenuous day. The pace will be fairly fast with only occasional breaks. To participate on this scramble you must be comfortable on steep terrain with lots of exposure and be in very good shape. Students are welcome, but you must have completed a scramble with a rating of at least 4-4 and done so without much struggle.
We will stop at Foggy Lake to filter water prior to ascending Del Campo, prior to ascending Gothic and on the way down. For me, that means I will only carry 60 ounces of water.
