8:30 AM at Crystal Mt Ski Area Chapel

Crystal Mt & etc.: 6 miles, 3250' gain. Maps will be provided.

This trip is intended for Alpine Scramble students who are still in need of a Snow peak credit. Emphasis will be on reinforcement of snow travel skills, navigation and route-finding.

We'll hike up through Kelly's Gap, ascend Snorting Elk Peak via its east face or Right-angle Ridge, and continue south along the ridgeline to Grubstake Peak, Crystal Mt and and Silver Queen Peak if time and stamina permit. In good weather the scenery is spectacular - eastward to the Cascade Crest, south to the Crystal Lakes Peaks, Mt Adams and Mt Hood (yep!) and westward to Mt Rainier, less than 13 miles distant.

Be mentally prepared for an 800 vertical foot glissade down a 30-degree plus slope. Yahoo!
