  • Strenuous 4, Technical 3
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 8.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 4,600 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 5,425 ft

Be prepped and ready to start walking by 8:00am at the Wagonwheel Lake TH near the Staircase Ranger Station.

If you don't have an America the Beautiful Pass or equivalent you'll need to pay the National Park Entrance Fee which is $30 per vehicle. You can purchase and print passes in advance at https://www.recreation.gov/sitepass/74290.

This is an infrequently visited peak with great views of the southern Olympics. The forecast is for a great day.

With 4600 feet of elevation gain/loss this trip is strenuous. You should ideally have done 4000+' days  (e.g. scramble trips or Mailbox Peak) this spring without too much stress.

The drive is reasonable from Kitsap, Tacoma, or Olympia, but pretty long from Seattle. The only ferry early enough to barely get you there on time would be the 5:30am boat to Bainbridge. Another option would be to drive down Thursday evening. There are campgrounds at Staircase and Big Creek.
