7:00 at Preston Park and RIde
Overnight Scramble to a tall peak in the Apline Lakes Wilderness. We'll meet at Preston PnR to consolidate riders before driving the remaining 2 hours or so to the Mineral Creek Trailhead. Hike in to Park Lakes (appx 5 miles and 2000ft gain) and make camp. Possible excursion up the slopes toward 3 Queens for view of the area after camp is set. Leave early from camp on Sunday for Chikamin Peak, return to camp and hike out; Sunday's mileage close to 13 miles. When you register please send me an email and let me know what group gear you can bring (tent, water filter, stove). Bring 10 essentials, overnight gear, helmet and ice axes. Trekking poles are optional but very useful. Much of this trip looks appears to be hiking(; actual scramble will be over heather slopes, talus, scree, and solid rock. There is a possibilty of making a loop out of the ascent from camp. Be comfortable sharing a tent with someone you don't know (unless you sign up with a Mountaineer friend). Overall published trip statistics vary. I aniticipate 18 miles and 4100 feet gain (half with an overnight pack). Please be in good shape if you plan to sign up for this trip.
