I tried this as a 1-day trip last year, but we chose an inefficient route to get to the ridge above Upper Wildcat Lake and ran out of time. We did find the correct route when we descended from that ridge, so I won't make the same mistake this time. In any case, the total gain for this trip is well over 5500', so I thought it might be more pleasant to take a couple of days.
On Monday, we'll hike to Gem Lake and camp there; I'm hoping there will be space available on a weekday evening. Tuesday will begin with a descent of more than 1000 feet to Lower Wildcat Lake, then on to the upper lake and the ridge above, which leads west and then southwest to the summit. Some routefinding may be necessary to bypass steeper terrain on the upper part of the ridge.
