Alpine Scramble - Camp Muir & Anvil Rock

Let's get some altitude! Priority to 2022 Kitsap scramble class. Second priority is to our Rainier team. Others, please don't request until June 3.

  • M2 Advanced Ski, Snow Scramble, Winter Scramble, Very Strenuous
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 10.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 4,800 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 10,200 ft
  • Pace: 1000ft/Hr

Outside the entrance to the bathroom tunnel at Paradise TH. 7am. Ready to go, 7:20.

  • We will start up to Camp Muir at 7:20am.  The goal is to reach Camp Muir in a leisurely 6 hours, but depending on circumstances, we may take longer. Our turnaround time will be 3:30. If conditions permit, we'll hike to the top of Muir Peak above the shelter. On the way down, we'll check out Anvil Rock.

This is a long, challenging day, mostly due to altitude, but also possibly due to weather  and navigation issues. Whiteout conditions, bitter cold, high winds and avalanche danger will turn us around or cancel the trip.  Ice ax, helmet may be required. Will likely recommend snowshoes and either crampons or microspikes.

Proof of vaccination required.
