Alpine Scramble - Burnt Park Loop

Trip

Alpine Scramble - Burnt Park Loop

An unexpected gem of a loop in the NE corner of Mountain Rainier National Park, this gorgeous and strenuous scramble (T2, S4) has expansive meadows and stunning views in all directions. Only for folks that are fully vaccinated.

  • Strenuous 4, Technical 2
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 10.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 4,000 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 6,358 ft

Huckleberry Creek Trailhead (exact time TBD).

We will be doing this loop in a counter-clockwise direction to simplify the negotiation of cliff bands on the western aspect of Point 6327 (the high point on the western side of the Burnt Park bowl).  After leaving the Huckleberry Creek Trail at ~3500’ we will ascend to the SE to reach Point 6327, then run the ridge to reach a commanding view on Burnt Park’s eastern border (Point 6358, the high point of our trip). Finally we will head north (mostly staying on the ridge crest) until intersecting the Huckleberry Creek Trail just south of the cars.  Photos from past trip(s) can be seen here.
