  • Elevation Gain: 3,900 ft

The focus for this trip will be FUN so don't sweat the S4-T5 rating! Pace will be somewhat less than moderate. We will start by hiking up Bean Creek Basin and climbing the fantastic rock on the SW approach to Bean Peak (6743). We'll then run the ridge over to Volcanic Neck (6600), and tackle the challenging T-5 notch on the backside (optional). Depending on time and how we're feeling we'll have the option to skip on over to Devil’s Head (6666), which is a non-technical peak with beautiful views. If we do it all the total elevation gain will be 4,000, and approximately 11 total miles. Estimated time: 12 hours. Shoes for creek crossing and/or dry socks recommended. Helmets, ice axes, and headlamps mandatory . Drive Instr: This is the same trailhead as for the Scramble Experience Field Trip. The road is VERY rough this year, so allow an extra half hour to get there, or take a good ground clearance vehicle. Drive the Teanaway River Road to the Beverly Creek road (4 miles past 29 Pines CG on gravel road) then to Trailhead (elevation 3240'). One Way Driving Time: 2.25 hrs. Miles: 130 from Seattle.
