Good leadership doesn't stem only from a focus on improving the individual doing the leading. Good leaders must also focus on doing the same for the group they are leading by supporting their individual and collective goals. In this talk Liz Riggs Meder, Director of Recreational Programs at AIARE, will share how she has carried her experiences as an engineer, educator, and mountain guide across multiple careers using lessons learned in each to craft a leadership style that focuses on the goals of her clients and customers. We’ll discuss several leadership tools that you can add to your own leader toolkit, and we’ll offer ideas for you to draw on your own experiences to help you more effectively lead others to meet their goals.  This workshop will include breakout sessions and participants are expected to engage with the group via audio and/or chat.

Liz Riggs Meder is the Director of Recreational Programs at AIARE, an avalanche education non-profit that writes research-based curriculum and trains instructors to teach their curriculum. In her role she writes curriculum not only for the end-user student, but also for the training instructors who teach the curriculum. She also occasionally works as a guide on the mountains and volcanoes of the Cascades. In previous life, she helped design airplanes at The Boeing Company. In her spare time she loves to ski and explore the mountains of Washington.
