All attendees will also receive a complimentary copy of Mountaineering: The Freedom of the Hills, 9th Edition!

Although “mountaineering” is called out in the title, this brand new edition of our flagship publication is, at its heart, a book about outdoor skills. With chapters on first aid, risk management, clothing systems, terrain assessment, leadership, conditioning, Leave No Trace – and more! – Freedom 9 is applicable to so much more than technical climbing, and we hope that you find it a valuable tool in your leadership toolkit!

Leadership Conference

For over 100 years, The Mountaineers has enriched the outdoor community by helping thousands of people to explore, conserve, learn about and enjoy the lands and waters of the Pacific Northwest and beyond. We take pride in that legacy, and we we want to honor our volunteer leaders who make it all happen!

The Mountaineers Leadership Conference is a one-day conference held on Saturday, December 2 at the Seattle Program Center in Magnuson Park. The program includes both esteemed outdoor professionals and seasoned leaders from our own community at The Mountaineers. A series of interactive sessions will explore the many facets of leadership – from honing our decision-making skills, to pedagogy and better teaching, to the "soft-skills" of facilitating positive group dynamics.
