Wilderness First Aid (AFA) Course - Seattle

The course is full; we will not be adding anymore sessions in 2017

We will fill any remaining spots in the scheduled sessions from the course wait list. If you would like another option, the Tacoma Branch is offering the same course and currently has some space available. Register here.

The Wilderness First Aid course (formerly Alpine First Aid) consists of two parts. To finish the course and receive credit, participants must complete both of the following:

WFA Wilderness First Aid  - 16 hour weekend course

WFA Scenarios -  a hands-on practical session

Wilderness First Aid is taught by Remote Medical International (RMI) at the Mountaineers’ Program Center in Magnuson Park on various weekends throughout the year. The course includes an independent WFA certification. Your course fee covers the cost of this instruction.

WFA Scenarios is a hands-on practical session at the Mountaineers’ Program Center to test your skills after completing the Wilderness First Aid course. Register for a scenario date that occurs after your WFA course. You may not do these out of order.

Sessions are made available throughout the year with staggered "registration open" dates. Course registration is expanded whenever new sessions are opened. Should the course fill, those on the wait list are given first option to register for the new sessions.

Equivalency notes: Partial or full equivalency may be available to individuals who have current backcountry medical certifications or extensive experience in providing medical care in remote or austere environments. Contact the course leader if you think you may meet these requirements. You will have to provide proof of your certification and/or experience and, depending on the certification, may still be required to complete the Scenarios portion of the class to receive credit. Urban and front-country medical training alone is not sufficient to meet this requirement, even with advanced education and experience. Candidates who have a Wilderness First Aid certification from another organization have to complete a scenario session to receive equivalency.
