CANCELED - Ozette Triangle Car Camp

Explore two popular Olympic Coast beaches, each with its own unique features, hiking to Sand Point on Saturday and Cape Alava on Sunday, camping Saturday night at the nearby Lost Resort Campground, for a fun weekend experience.

We will meet at 11:30 AM Saturday at the Lost Resort Store, 20860 Hoko-Ozette Road, Clallam Bay, WA 98326.  It is reached from Port Angeles by heading west on US 101,, turning right onto SR 112, signed Neah Bay, turning right at the stop sign to stay on SR 112, turning left onto the Hoko-Ozette Road and right near the end of the road into the Lost Resort, keeping right at the road fork to reach the store, where a restroom with a flush toilet is available.  A shower is available there for a fee.  At the store we will pay for the number of campsites we need, which are not numbered, and then drive the campground loop to select the campsites we want.  After setting up camp, we will have  a trail lunch and then caravan to the nearby Ozette Trailhead parking lot, where each car must display a National Park Pass.  We will gather at the trailhead, where men's and women's restrooms with flush toilets are available and a faucet with clean water is also available.  We will hike three miles to Sand Point on a mostly level trail, that is about half  on a boardwalk.  At Sand Point, we will explore the beautiful beach and can take in the magnificent view up and down the coast from atop the hill at the point, before hiking back to Ozette by the same route.  Saturday night we will have a camp dinner together, followed by smores around a campfire and lively conversation.

Sunday morning we will have a camp breakfast, break camp, caravan to the Ozette Trailhead parking lot and  then gather at 10 AM at the trailhead for the hike to Cape Alava, where we will have a trail lunch and view the site of an ancient Indian Village and the surrounding coastal scenery, before returning to Ozette by the same route.  On the drive home there will be the option for a group dinner at a restaurant, if covid 19 conditions permit.

Registration for this car camp is by registering for the two related day hikes.  Anyone registering for one of the hikes must also register for the other one and participate in the Saturday night encampment.  Compliance is monitored by requiring leader permission for the two day hikes.
