Mt. St. Helens Car Camp at Seaquest State Park

We will meet at 9 AM Saturday at the campground entrance of Seaquest State Park, 3030 Spirit Lake Hwy (SR 504), set up camp in reserved campsites, and then drive to Johnston Observatory to pick up wrist bands and begin hiking to Harry's Ridge.  To obtain the wrist bands, one Northwest Forest Pass or National Park Pass must be shown for every four people in the hiking group.  No pass need be displayed on the cars.  We'll have our trail lunch at the top of Harry's Ridge and then return to the parking lot, where we drop off our hiking gear and then walk back to Johnston Observatory to explore the exhibits, ranger talks and films shown there.  Then we will drive back to our campsites at Seaquest State Park for a camp dinner, followed by smores around the fire, before retiring for the night.

Sunday morning we will break camp and drive to the Boat Launch parking lot at Coldwater Lake, where we will meet at 9:30 AM, use the restrooms there, leave half our cars there and drive in the other cars to the South Coldwater Ridge trailhead parking lot.  A Northwest Forest Pass or National Park Pass must be displayed by each car.  Then we will hike to the top of South Coldwater Ridge, where we have our trail lunch, continue down to the north end of Coldwater Lake for a rest and a swim at a sandy beach, and then hike out along the west side of the lake to the boat launch trailhead, where we get into the cars there to return to the South Coldwater Ridge trailhead parking lot.  On the drive home from there, we have the option to stop for dinner at the popular Fire Mountain Grill.

Registration for this car camp is under the names of the two day hikes on the activities menu.  Anyone signing up for one day hike is required to sign up for the other one and to camp with the group Saturday night at Seaquest State Park.  The prepaid campsite fees will be shared equally by the car camp participants.  Leader permission is required to register for the two day hikes to assure that everyone registered is participating in all three activities.
