Summer Camp Backpack - Independence Lake - 2022

Youth Program

Summer Camp - Backpacking

Introductory 1-night backpack in the North Cascades!

Independence Lake is a great trip for backpackers of any level. The low mileage and elevation gain are great for first-timers and the beautiful scenery can be enjoyed by all. This camp is open to campers ages 10 to 14 and includes transportation, food, and backcountry skills lessons.

Campers arrive at the Seattle Program Center on Monday morning at 9am. After a few ice breaker games, a gear check, and a group meeting, we will load the cars and hit the road! On the trail we'll learn about leave no trace, navigation, and play lots of trail games. Campers are expected to carry their personal gear and some of the group gear. Upon arrival at the magically blue lake, we'll set up camp and spend the evening exploring, cooking a camp dinner, and playing games.

Tuesday begins with a hearty breakfast and camp break down. After a bit more exploring, we'll hike back out with our new skills, friends, and fun memories. Pick up is at the Seattle Program Center at 3pm.

Join us on this hike-tastic adventure!
