Meany Lodge Work Party - 3/27/21

Meany Lodge Work Party - 3/27/21

The first work party of the year! Come cut branches and prune trees in the morning and then ski the tows or play in the snow after lunch.

Rates:

Adult member (age 14+) $0.00
Adult non-member (age 14+) $0.00
Youth member (age 13-) $0.00
Youth non-member (age 13-) $0.00

This is our first work party of the season.  With the high snow levels, it's a great opportunity to trim branches from trees.   Get outside, meet new people, get the Lodge ready for next year's season, and have fun with skiing and snow play all at the same time!

The plan:

  • Meet in Crystal Springs parking lot #4 at 8:15 am
  • Depart for the Lodge by 8:30 am, towing in as many of the people on skis as possible
  • Trim branches on the hill or along the 420 road until lunch
  • Lunch in the Zoo (our outside garage with lots of air flow and infrared patio heaters)
  • Free skiing on the hill until consensus to head home

Bring skis if you have them. You will be using them to trim branches up on the hill, and it will make towing everyone in go much faster.  Skis with skins and or X-Country skis  are ideal.

We have plenty of snow shoes to loan if your prefer to walk around on them instead.  Bring outside snow boots if you think you will be using snowshoes.

Bring normal winter ski attire and work gloves.  Cutting branches involves handling tree sap, so it's not a good day to bring a brand new jacket.

Families are welcome.  We just ask that one adult in the family participates in the work party.  The other adult can tend to the children.  We can run tows for children and tending adults in the morning while others are working.

Meany Lodge will be practicing COVID-19 safety precautions.

Help keep everyone safe from COVID.  All participants are expected to have and wear a mask for the tow in and out, when inside, or whenever gathered in a group.  Participants are expected to keep their distance from people outside their quarantine pod.  Anyone feeling sick is asked to cancel and will receive a full refund.

Meany Lodge itself will be closed - only the bathrooms will be open.

This year, Meany will be most enjoyed by those ready to spend the day outside, with limited opportunities for rewarming.

Everyone must pre-register on the website to ensure our group size remains within the limits established by the Governor and to enable contact tracing should it be necessary.  We regret we cannot accommodate drop-ins.

Read more about what to expect at our winter weekends at Meany, including where to park, what parking permits you'll need, and how transportation to/from the lodge works.

Please see the winter directions for getting to Meany Lodge.

We will meet at 8:10 am in the overnight parking area of the Crystal Spring Sno-Park.    Your car will need a State Sno-Park Permit.  Have your ski boots on and your skis handy - we are asking everyone that is able to tow in so we can stay spread out for the cat ride in to Meany.  This year there will only be one cat ride in, and it leaves the parking lot at 8:30am.

Please minimize  the amount of gear you bring.  We suggest a change of clothes per person in case you get wet, and that these clothes be in a backpack you can hang on a peg in our shelters.

We expect to return to the parking lot by 6pm.  There will be a limited number of spots available on a ride out to the parking lot after lunch for those that find it too cold.

Meany encourages wearing  helmets!  They are required for anyone sledding.

Please bring your  own skis and outdoor exploration gear.  We have a limited number of snow shoes available to borrow at the Lodge.

If you would like to sled, please bring helmets for all sledders (all ages must have helmets), and please plan to have an adult at the top and bottom of the sled hill to ensure safety.

Please wear clothes in layers that will keep your warm and comfortable outside from 8:30am till 6pm.

We suggest a change of clothes per person in case you get wet, and that these clothes be in a backpack you can hang on a peg in our shelters.
