Shi Shi Beach Car Camp

Explore the two most spectacular places on the Olympic Coast, hiking to Cape Flattery on Saturday and Shi Shi Beach on Sunday, camping Saturday night on the beach at popular Hobuck Beach Resort Campground near Neah Bay.

We will meet at 11 AM Saturday at Washburn's General Store, where we purchase a Makah Recreation Permit for each car and any supplies and lunch food we may need and have a picnic lunch in the picnic shelter by the parking lot.  Then we drive the short distance to Hobuck Beach Resort Campground, pay for campsites at the rate of $25 per car, and set up camp.  Then we drive to the Cape Flattery Trailhead, where each car must display the Makah Recreation Pass, and hike to the cape viewpoints and back, which is about a mile round trip, with minor elevation gain.  Then we return to camp and have a camp dinner, followed by smores around the campfire.

Sunday morning we have a camp breakfast, break camp and drive to the Shi Shi Beach Trailhead parking lot, where we once again must display the Makah Recreation Pass on each car.  The hike in to Point of the Arches on Shi Shi Beach is about four miles each way, with about 150 feet elevation gain on the return.  At Point of the Arches we will eat a trail lunch and inspect the marine life there, before returning to the cars by the same route.  On the drive home we will have the option to stop for dinner at the Breakwater Cafe in Clallam Bay.

Signup for this car camp is by registering for the July 6-7 Shi Shi Beach and Cape Flattery day hikes on the Mountaineers activities web site (click on the green buttons below).
