Everett Branch Sport Climbing Program

This course will teach you the skills to safely lead on sport (bolted) routes. Instruction includes lead belaying, clipping, anchors, and climbing techniques. The course is suggested for gym climbers and scramblers, and Basic Grads who want to further develop their rock skills and learn to lead.

If you are interested in moving from the gym to the crag, progressing from top rope to leading, or just want to round out some of your rock skills, this course is for you!  This course will teach you the skills to safely lead on sport (bolted) routes. Instruction includes lead belay technique, clipping, anchors, and climbing techniques. The course is suggested for gym climbers and scramblers, and Basic Grads who want to further develop their rock skills and learn to lead.

Prerequisites

Applicants must know how to belay. The following proof will be accepted: A Belay Card certificate from any Climbing Gym, a certificate of graduation from the Basic Climbing Course, equivalency status, or have at least passed the Final Exam.

Note that Basic Climbing Course graduation is not a prerequisite.

Equipment

Climbing shoes, belay device (grigri or ATC), Belay gloves (required), 4-6 quickdraws, 4 non locking carabiners, 4 locking carabiners, 2 double length slings or sewn runners, 1 30ft length of 7mm cord or cordelette.

Registration

Applicants will be informed whether they have been accepted into the course. To register, request an application by sending an email to Josh Taylor, josh.t.taylor@gmail.com or the Intermediate Climbing Chair, Climbing_Intermediate@EverettMountaineers.com. The course fee is due on the day of the lecture. Do not send fee until you have been notified that you have been accepted into the course.

  • Informal and/or make-up day at 2021 Climber's Rendezvous (pending)

Graduation

Successful completion of all field trips.
