New course opens - Backpacking Building Blocks

Whether you are a hiker interested in trying backpacking for the first time, a new backpacker who wants to go further & longer, or perhaps a long-time backpacker looking to find great new trail companions, refresh your knowledge and compare gear and methods with other long-timers, the new Backpacking Building Blocks or ‘B3’ course has something for all of you.

The Backpacking Building Blocks "B3" course is designed to provide both beginning and more-experienced backpackers with new or refreshed knowledge; with the tools and practical experiences to be skilled, safe and successful backpackers; and with opportunities to steadily improve their skills and capabilities on the trail and in camp. In addition, the B3 course will offer participants the guidance of experienced trip leaders and a community of backpacking companions through a series of 20+ trip offerings of varying intensity and length through the May-to-October Pacific Northwest backpacking season.

With a combination of classroom sessions, seminars, outdoor skills practice and multi-day backpacking trips, course graduates will gain meaningful credentials for participation in future Mountaineers-sponsored backpacking trips.

New this spring and offered by the Foothills Branch, this course is now open for enrollment to Mountaineers age 18+ with an up-to-date waiver on file – new members are welcome. See the course link for more information and to register.
