May 5: Smith Rock Spring ThingOn May 5, 2007, the Smith Rock Group hosts its annual volunteer event "The Smith Rock Spring Thing" in Central Oregon. People come from all around to help maintain the Smith Rocks area, share good food and commune with fellow outdoor enthusiasts.
Volunteers will work on a number of projects encompassing trail building/repair, building retaining walls, planting native species and trash pickup. Registration goes from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., and projects run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Evening activities include a slideshow of the day's projects, a 1986 film called "The Birth of Sportclimbing," an auction, raffle, dinner and more.
