Jan. 26: REMINDER - Mt. Rainier benefit events with Mike GauthierJan. 19 & Jan. 26: Mt. Rainier benefits with Mike Gauthier
Friday, January 26 - Seattle
7:30 p.m.
The Mountaineers Building, 300 Third Ave W, Seattle
UPDATE: The Tacoma fundraiser for Mt. Rainier on Friday, January 19 was an overwhelming success with over 200 people in attendance. We are expecting a similar turnout for this Friday's event, so make sure to get there early for a good seat. It's free, but we are asking for donations to various non-profits that are helping with the cleanup and rebuilding of trails.
With an amazing amount of rain coming down in Washington last fall, Mt. Rainier National Park (MRNP) took a serious beating. Sections of the main road into Longmire were washed out, campgrounds we destroyed, and the park was effectively cut off from the outside world.
The Mountaineers are hosting two benefits for MRNP with Mike Gauthier, Climbing Program Manager and Rescue Coordinator for the park. At each event, Mike will provide a first-hand account of the November 2006 flooding, access to the mountain and opportunities for hiking, backpacking and climbing in 2007.
We're partnering with two organizations to help MRNP. The event is free, but the Student Conservation Association (SCA) and Washington's National Park Funds (WNPF) will both be on hand to take donations towards repairing the extensive damage. We hope you can attend and help us help Rainier!
