July 21: Author Dan Nelson on KUOW

Dan Nelson will appear on KUOW-FM 94.9 "Weekday" on Friday, July 21, from 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m live.

The show is about "Disappearing Hiking Trails." Here's a description of the show from KUOW's website: “Cuts in the Forest Service budget mean fewer trail maintenance crews. Volunteer groups are trying to pick up the slack. What will it mean if fewer hiking trails are maintained on the public lands? Also, some people use the woods for driving, others for biking or hiking. Is there a opportunity for them to pool their resources or are they too at odds over forest uses?”

Dan will be asked for his thoughts on the state of hiking today, and his observations of the trails in our area. Elizabeth Lunney of the Washington Trails Association will join Dan and host Steve Scher to talk about all the policy issues involved. KUOW will also bring in trails foremen from the various national parks around our state, by phone.

Dan Nelson is the author of many Mountaineers titles, including "Snowshoeing Routes: Washington," "Best Hikes with Dogs: Western Washington," and "Best Loop Hikes: Washington." For a complete list of Dan's titles, visit Mountaineers Books
