**News and Events: Mountaineers Snoqualmie Lodge Burns Down

Mon, May 15, 2006 09:56 AM

Around 5:30 a.m. on Friday, May 12, a driver near Snoqualmie Pass noticed billowing smoke coming from the club's Snoqualmie Lodge property. They called authorities, who soon discovered the lodge was engulfed in flames.

There were no injuries resulting from the fire. The lodge was closed, locked and not in use at the time of the fire. The lodge was surrounded by snow and the flames did not spread beyond the lodge and adjacent vehicles. The cause of the fire is unknown and Executive Director Steve Costie and Mountaineers officials are cooperating with fire investigators.

Club members are saddened by the loss of this historic structure. Snoqualmie Lodge was once a popular ski lodge used by club members, but more recently, has served as a weekend meeting place for various community groups.
