June 3 - National Trails Day: Asahel Curtis Nature Trail Rededication

To celebrate National Trails Day and the club's centennial, The Mountaineers are sponsoring a rededication of the Asahel Curtis Nature Trail at Exit 47 off I-90. Asahel Curtis, along with W. Montelius Price, founded The Mountaineers way back in 1906. He was also a highly respected photographer, naturalist and conservation leader.

Originally dedicated in September of 1964, the nature trail is a short loop hike that wanders through ancient Douglas Fir stands. A family-friendly destination, three groups have worked laboriously over the past few years to get the trail in shape for this ceremony - the Forest Service, the Seattle Naturalists committee of the club, and Washington Trails Association.

Please join these groups and other fellow hikers on Saturday, June 3 for a short rededication ceremony at the trailhead. Speakers from all three organizations will talk a little about the efforts to restore the trail, and a new trailhead kiosk will be unveiled, followed by refreshments and nature trail walks. The rededication begins at 10 am. See you there!

To reach the Asahel Curtis Nature Trail, take I-90 East to Exit 47. Turn right (south) and proceed to a ‘T’ intersection. Turn left and follow Forest Road 5590 until it ends at a parking lot.
