Washington Coast Beach Clean up
April 22, 2006 (Earth Day)

Volunteers are needed during the weekend of April 22, 2006 to collect and remove marine generated debris from 140 miles of Washington coastal beaches between Long Beach and Hobuck Beach on the Makah Reservation. The 2006 clean up is coordinated with similar clean up efforts in Ocean Shores and the Long Beach Peninsula. This broad community participatory event is supported by more than fifty organizations, agencies and community groups from throughout Western Washington.

Severe 2005-2006 winter storms deposited new flotsam and jetsam along Washington’s Pacific Ocean Beaches. During the 2005 clean up, 647 volunteers removed 37 tons (!) of unwanted materials from beaches between Tokeland and Hobuck Beach. Many beaches are easily accessible. Most beaches within Olympic National Park are remote and require backcountry wilderness camping skills.

Volunteers may register at one of ten locations including several state parks, Olympic National Park, and the Quinault Reservation.
