The pursuit to secure a new headquarters location in Magnuson Park has been given the go ahead by The Mountaineers Board of Trustees. At its May 5 meeting, the board voted 15-5 to accept its Headquarters Building Advisory Council's (HBAC) recommendation to procure a lease agreement with the City of Seattle, which manages the property, and to put the current headquarters in Lower Queen Anne up for sale.
The adoption of the recommendation means that if a 30-year lease agreement with the city for a total of $1.7 million can be reached, the current building and site will be sold for no less than $3.95 million. If both are achieved, users of the headquarters could move in by the end of 2006, according to HBAC projections.
