Renowned mountaineer, guide and explorer Peter Athans has earned the name "Mr. Everest" by reaching the summit of Everest seven times. He is also a high altitude film-maker/cinematographer, earning film credits for NOVA and National Geographic Explorer, as well as for the feature film, "Seven Years in Tibet". He has also been honored by the American Alpine Club for his rescue of Beck Weathers during the 1996 Everest expedition featured in the book Into Thin Air.
Peter will share still images and video from his trips to Everest, along with anecdotes from his travels. He is also giving us a sneak peek at his new documentary, Secrets of Shangri-La, which debuts on November 18. Secrets of Shangri-La covers his most recent explorations into Nepal's remote Kingdom of Mustang, where he and his team discovered and documented ancient Buddhist texts and images.
Peter is appearing twice for The Mountaineers. On Friday, November 12, he will give his presentation at The Mountaineers Building in Seattle. The next night, Athans will talk to attendees of the Everett Annual Banquet (ticket sales close November 10!). You have two chances to see this amazing and riveting presentation - don't miss out.
