Seattle Branch Youth Committee needs your help!Seattle Branch Youth Committee needs your help!

After a couple years of inactivity there is renewed interest in reviving this once very active and important group within the club. The Youth Committee was founded in 1991 by Pat Whitehill-Bates, Jeroldine Hallberg and Leonard Russell. The purpose was to provide a way for young people 14-18 to get involved in outdoor activities similar to what The Club offers but things they could do with their own peer group under the guise of supervised adult leadership. The young people themselves would help choose, plan, organize and lead these activities. Some of the activities in the past included hiking, backpacking, climbing, sea kayaking, river rafting, trail maintenance, Olympic Beach cleanup, snowshoeing, skiing, to name a few.

All youth are welcome especially those who have not had the opportunity to experience the great outdoors. To get started again we are first putting out a call for interested volunteers (youth and adults) who are willing to spend a little time setting up and implementing a program to get young people involved in the outdoors.

Once we have heard from enough volunteers we will call a meeting and begin the process of reviving the Youth Committee. If interested please contact Leonard Russell, 206 325-1310, leonardr@mountaineers.org or Sunny Remington (206) 354-8518, sunny9@u.washington.edu
