Alan Bauer is a professional nature photographer and author whose stunning images capture the beauty and grandeur of the Pacific Northwest. Most recently, his photographs are featured in Day Hiking: The Central Cascades - a guide to some of the most accessible wilderness areas for urban Puget Sounders. The new guide focuses on cream-of-the-crop trails in these areas: Whidbey Island; Skykomish, Wenatchee, and Icicle River Valleys; the Entiat Mountains; the Lake Chelan area; and more. Published by Mountaineers Press, the new guidebook is the latest in a series of hiking guides which include Day Hiking-Mount Rainier National Park, Day Hiking-South Cascades and Day Hiking-Snoqualmie, Best Desert Hikes: Washington and Best Hikes With Dogs: Inland Northwest - all of which feature Bauer's breathtaking photography (and some of which he co-wrote).

Alan L. Bauer is a lifelong resident of the Pacific Northwest, having grown up on a large family farm in Oregon's Willamette Valley and now calling Washington state his home for the past 22 years. His work has been published in Backpacker, Odyssey, MotorHome, Northwest Runner, CityDog, Northwest Outdoors, Oregon Coast, and Northwest Travel magazines as well as the Getaways weekly outdoor recreation magazine insert for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.
