The creative folks at goingApps have come up with a cool new application for the iPhone called Wind Meter. The concept is simple: the application uses the microphone on the iPhone to determine wind speed. There obvious uses for Mountaineers members - sea kayaking, sailing, alpine climbing, etc.

The Wind Meter application seems fairly easy to use - hold the phone in the direction of the wind, tap a button, wait a few seconds, and then tap another button. Wind speed is output in miles per hour, knots, and kilometer per hour. The application's website promises a feet per second conversion soon.
