4/25: Mountaineers Grand Opening/SpringFestMountaineers Grand Opening!
On Saturday, April 25, we will officially open the new Mountaineers Building and you are invited! Were holding a Grand Opening celebration from 10 am to 4 pm. During this event, you can try out the new indoor and outdoor climbing walls, talk to leaders from your favorite activities, win some great prizes, and explore our Gear Corral for the latest and greatest equipment from exhibitors such as Montrail, Atlas, Ibex, Petzl, MSR, Therm-a-Rest, Mountain Hardwear, NEMO, Kelty and Sierra Designs. Families will find plenty to do, and the kids will enjoy the PEMCO Insurance petting zoo, featuring the goats from the PEMCO commercials.
We also have special events planned throughout the day. It all begins with an appearance by Mayor Greg Nickels, who will officially welcome The Mountaineers to Magnuson Park. Later, we will have guest appearances by four Mountaineers Books authors: Craig Romano talks about his favorite hikes from "Day Hiking: Central Cascades"; Ron Judd of the Seattle Times helps us explore overnight trips from "Camping Washington"; Jennifer Worick creates nature-inspired art, as found in "Backcountry Betty: Crafting in Style"; and Langdon Cook shows you how to find tasty treats in the wild, from his upcoming title "Fat of the Land: Adventures of a 21st Century Forager."
We hope that you, your family and friends can all make it down to the Mountaineers Building on April 25 to help us celebrate our Grand Opening! Carpooling, riding the bus, and other forms of mass transit/public transport are encouraged, as parking will be difficult.
Our thanks to PEMCO Insurance, MSR, Therm-a-Rest, NEMO, Arc'Teryx, Platypus and Hilleberg the Tentmaker for their sponsorship of this event.
Magnuson Park Springfest
Take a break from the city
in the city.
While the Mountaineers celebrate the opening of our new building, Magnuson Park will be hosting SpringFest, a showcase for the organizations who call the park home. From 10 am to 4 pm, you can watch a rugby game, buy a rain barrel and green cones, learn how to fix a flat bicycle tire, try sailing a boat, jump in a soccer scrimmage, and learn about landscaping with native plants.
Its a great day to bring the kids, too. Throughout the park, kids will be able to visit a bouncy house, run through an indoor playpark, get their hands dirty in the Childrens Garden, make puppets, play some soccer, meet the tooth fairy, get their faces painted, and try out the open gym at Gymboree!
In addition to all this, SpringFest has food, fun and music. Even art cars! We hope you can join us during this spring kick-off. Parking will be tight, so carpool, ride the bus or walk to the park if you can!
