Landscaping work parties at Magnuson ParkLandscaping work parties at Magnuson Park

The new club facility at Magnuson Park is nearly finished and the Naturalists Committee is organizing work parties to complete the landscaping. As part of the project a landscape architect developed a plan using mostly native plants, including dogwood, vine maple, salal, sword fern, and many more. We are looking for volunteers to help put them in the ground. Here are details:

Oct. 4, Sat. - Trees and large shrubs. After instruction by Olympic Nursery, we will plant the foundation plants: dogwoods, serviceberry, mock orange, red-flowering currant, thimbleberry, snowberry, and more. Bring shovels and/or spading forks and work gloves. Pizza at lunch. 9 am to 4 pm. If your schedule allows, those trained this day can help lead work crews on Oct. 11 or Nov. 1-2.

Oct. 11, Sat - PresidentÂ’s Work Party. We will plant 500 salal and sword fern plus other shrubs. Bring shovels or spading forks and work gloves. Building tours too. 12-5 pm. BBQ follows.

Nov. 1-2, Sat-Sun - Ground Cover. We will plant 2,000 ground cover plants this weekend, including kinikkinnik, wild strawberry, camas, and yarrow. Great for the whole family. Bring a trowel and work gloves. Come either day or both. 12-5 each day.

Refreshments provided. Open to all members, family, and friends. Please sign up online or by calling (206) 284-8484 so we know how many plants to bring in for each day.

This is a great chance to leave your mark on the new building and watch it grow (literally). Thanks in advance to all!
