Recent Trail Repairs Will Allow Wonderland Trail AccessRecent Trail Repairs Will Allow Wonderland Trail Access
With the placement of new steel bridges in three locations along the Wonderland Trail this week, Mount Rainier backcountry users will now be able to apply for permits to hike the entire Wonderland Trail for the remainder of the season. Trail reroutes are in place in some locations and hikers will have to walk along the road in the Stevens Canyon area. Trail users will get a first-hand view of the extensive damage that occurred throughout the park during the rain and windstorms last fall. Mount Rainiers Trail Crew and staff, Student Conservation Association Volunteers, the Washington Trails Association and hundreds of other volunteers have made amazing progress in getting these trails open.
Hikers should be aware there is still trail damage throughout the park, repair is ongoing and to be cautious and safe when hiking.
Those wanting to make Wonderland Trail reservations can do so through the parks web page at www.nps.gov/mora/planyourvisit/wilderness-camping-and-hiking.htm. For more information, contact the Wilderness Information Center at 360-569-HIKE.
