Noted Puget Sound shoreline expert Wolf Bauer will speak Tuesday, October 5 at The Mountaineers Building in Seattle at 7:00 p.m. Learn about feeder bluffs, mass wasting, and drift cells at this talk, combed from years of pioneering work in shoreline resource conservation and management. This event is free with donations benefitting Washington Water Trails Association.
In addition to his shoreline work, Mr. Bauer founded the Washington Kayak Club and helped design the first american fiberglass kayaks. He started The Mountaineers' climbing course and, with Ome Daiber and others, formed the Mountain Rescue Council. He grew up on Lummi Island and continues to live in Puget Sound on other islands.
Bauer's influence on local shoreline management regulations is hard to calculate. He introduced a number of unconventional terms into the shoreline lexicon, and his 1974 study of littoral cells, or drift sectors, in Whatcom County is considered landmark.
This is an incredible opportunity to learn about the natural forces at work in the Puget Sound. Bauer, a Northwest icon, has over 80 years experience on Puget Sound waters.
