Lots of options for distance and elevation gain with the trail system in the Park. Map and understanding of basic navigation recommended for this trip - there are lots of trail junctions. Join us to shake the kinks out, keep in shape or get back in shape, try out new boots or other gear, etc. There are numerous trails at Pt. Defiance; this trip will be 5 miles with 300 feet of elevation gain; total time about 4 hours. We'll hike, at a SLOW leisurely pace, through the forest at Pt. Defiance with a stop at Fort Nisqually for a lunch/snack break. We will hike together as a group making lots of stops along the way to admire the views, make equipment adjustments, catch our breath, etc. This is NOT a trip for anyone in a hurry. You should always have the Ten Essentials in your pack as a matter of course but requirements for this trip are more relaxed, though a full pack is recommended for overall conditioning. Similarly, the wilderness hike requirement that your clothing must be 100% COTTON-FREE can be relaxed at Pt. Defiance. BUT, you must be dressed appropriately for the weather.
