Seattle Alpine Scrambling
Steven T. Russell
When combined with Big Chief Mountain (S2-2), trip becomes 7 miles with 2800' gain.
This would make a good first snow scramble for students once they have completed the Scramble Snow Field Trip. It's relatively short and with relatively low gain, though it does have some moderately steep sections. Thus, it's a good trip for practicing your snow travel and ice ax skills (which we will take the time to do). We'll park in the lot opposite (across the highway from) the one used for the field trip. Otherwise the destination and driving directions are the same (except you can get up a little later!). Figure about two hours driving time from Seattle area). Bring all the same gear (helmet, ice ax, clothing, pack) that you used for the field trip (bring MORE clothing and extra socks/gloves if you were cold at the FT).
