Wildflower, Walking, WineTasting- Cowiche Canyon
Dee Ann Kline
Martin Way P & R
Cowiche Canyon is part of the rails to trails system. The trail follows a portion of an old 1880s railroad route. The Canyon is a conversancy and is a pristine walk through a natural canyon. It is an excellent site for flower and bird watching. A fairly new addition to the trail is a side trail going out of the canyon and leading to a winery with picnic grounds and tasting room.
Yakima. Mid-April to Mid-May are the prime times to view Eastern Washington wildflowers. We will carpool from Olympia, driving over I-90 to Yakima. We will stop in North Bend to meet hikers who are coming from the north. Cowiche Canyon is a nature conservancy just outside of Yakima. We will hike the 2.9 mile Cowiche Canyon Trail and take a .5 mile side trip on the newly developed Winery Trail that connects the Cowiche Canyon Trail with the Tasting Room Washington on Naches Height. We will picnic here and allow time for those who want to visit the tasing room. Camera are encouraged.
