When visibility is good, the views from Artist Point and Huntoon Point are hard to beat. The track follows alongside the ski area, leads up to Austin Pass, and rises further up to Artist Point. From Artist Point, another half mile along a ridge takes us to Huntoon Point.

Avalanche risk can be mitigated with good terrain choice, but this is not a trip suitable for high avalanche danger days.

I am leading a similar trip the day before, but will offer Huntoon Point as an option for folks on Saturday.

Students who are taking the Backcountry Snowshoe Skills course should note that if they register for both trips, only one will count towards certification (since trip diversity is important towards learning skills).

If the avalanche danger is not too high, we may use some of our time during this trip to include ice axe arrest practice.

We will be meeting in the upper parking lot (to the right and before the main ski area). If you've reached the parking area next to the ski lifts and lodges, you've gone too far.
