This trip will combine a skate clinic in the morning for more experienced classic skiers wishing to try out skating on the lower trails at the Summit Nordic Center taught by the trip leader (a PSIA Level 1 Track Instructor). We will have our brown bag lunch or you can buy a meal in the lodge. Then in the afternoon we will explore some of the upper trails with classic or skate skis. This trip is classified a N3 and depending which trails we agree to take may include riding the Silver Fir chairlift to the top and skiing down. The skiing for this can involve some quite steep sections.
The route selected will depend of the aptitude of the skiers, snow and weather conditions and remaining time available prior to our estimated 3:30 to 4 pm finish.
This is not a trip for new skiers wishing to learn to skate who have not mastered classic skiing. The afternoon trip will give participants the option to continue to skate or return to classic equipment if you have brought this with you.
Fees and Rentals: If you do not have a season pass at the Summit, this trip will involve buying a Summit Nordic trail day pass for $19 ($2 reduction for seniors 62 years and over and free for 70 and above). The trip also required the renting of skate skis, boots and poles if you do not have these or can loan them for your size from a friend of family member. Classic boots normally will not fit the skate bindings and the poles need to be longer. The rental package at the Summit Nordic Center is $28 for the day and some senior discounts are available: visit:
Skate equipment rentals are also available from REI Seattle and Redmond branches only. The cost is $30 for REI members for 3 days (1 to pick up, 1 to ski and 1 to return) and $60 plus deposit of $200 for non members.
