This is a Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course taught by Remote Medical International (RMI), a leader in wilderness medicine training and education. The WFA course is 16 hours and designed to provide elementary skills in remote care. Based on recommendations from the Wilderness Medical Society and evidence-based research, the curriculum focuses on making sound decisions regarding patient evacuation, as well as skills for extended care. The Wilderness First Aid courses are hands-on, experiential format providing students with the skills and confidence for making remote medical care decisions. WFA is ideal for climbers, scramblers and other outdoor recreation enthusiasts who either work or play away from definitive medical facilities and support.

For more information on Remote Medical International, see their website.

Note: This is not the same course curriculum as the Mountaineers' MOFA course, which is based on the Red Cross curriculum. However, either course will fulfill the first aid requirement for Mountaineers' courses that have a first aid component.

This is the lecture part of the Alpine First Aid course which is an approved First Aid option for Mountaineers' courses requiring a First Aid certification. You must register for the Alpine First Aid course to receive credit in the Mountaineers course tracking system.

The session will be held at the Mountaineers’ Program Center at Magnuson Park: 7700 Sandpoint Way NE in Seattle. The course starts promptly at 8:00 AM and runs until 5:00 PM. Plan to arrive by 7:45 AM in order to find your room and sign-in.

Part of this course will be held outside. Wear comfortable clothes and bring a sack lunch/snack and water for the day.

By completing this portion of Alpine First Aid, you will receive a WFA certification from RMI. To graduate from the Mountaineers' Alpine First Aid offering, you must first complete the WFA section, then a hands-on Scenarios section to demonstrate your skills. Register for and complete a Scenario session that occurs after your WFA date.
