Seattle Mountaineers Program Center

Thank you for volunteering, your help makes this course possible.

Please bring your compass, and maybe write your name on it since you might lend it to one of the students at your table. Please bring your USGS Baring and Index maps if you have them since you might need to reference them or lend them to a student at your table. Answer keys for the student problems will be available at the Workshop but if you have one from a previous Workshop then please bring it.

Normally there are two instructors per table, so if you're a new instructor or have only instructed once or twice then you can choose to be paired with an experienced instructor.
Instructor Training workshops are available for new instructors as well as experienced ones who haven't instructed for a few years. Click here for more information.

In order to instruct you need to be a Basic Navigation Course graduate, but if you're not then you'll need to contact the Seattle Navigation Committee Chair to apply for special permission.
Thank you for volunteering online to instruct at a navigation workshop! Your help makes this program possible. Please be sure your e-mail address, home address and phone number are up-to-date in your Mountaineers “Profile” so we can contact you and send you materials if needed.

Optional (and free!) instructor training sessions will be held on Monday, Oct 15th and Tuesday, Jan 22nd, and you can sign up for either of these online as well. These sessions are open to new or experienced instructors and will go over what to teach in the Navigation workshops, extra tips on how to convey important concepts, and a chance to ask questions as experienced instructors share strategies they have used. You can sign up online. Contact Mike Sweeney ( or Mary Aulet (; 425-822-0128) if you have questions.

We sincerely appreciate your help.
