Hike with birding opportunities along the Twin Barns Loop trail with short sidetrips to riparian forest overlook and Nisqually overlook. Guidebook: A Birders Guide to Washington (Opperman) Pay $3 to park or use Golden Age Pass or Annual pass to NWRs. Bring binoculars, snacks and fluids, and scopes, if you have them.

This will be moderate-paced birding trip to a midway point on the boardwalk, avoiding duck hunters, to spot migrating shorebirds. We'll take a short ramble in the woodlands adjacent to the Nisqually River. We will combine this outing with a trip to McClane Creek in the Capitol Forest south of Olympia to hopefully watch spawning chum salmon and explore this magical wetland, identifying plant and bird species as we travel on this 1.5 mile trail.
