Old Mine Trail at Carbon River

Hike the old Carbon River Road, now turned turned trail, for 1.20 miles from the Carbon River Entrance to Mt. Rainier National Park, the side trail to and Old Mine. From the road hike in 0.25 miles to view the gated mine entrance. Mellow hike through lush old growth forest, with a push up steep switchbacks, with some exposure, the last tenth of a mile or so to the mine opening. The last bit moves this trail from Easy to Easy+. This trail is likely to almost always be muddy. The adventuro us can continue to the left from the Old Mine Entrance and work their way to the remains of an old building. The Old Mine was a copper mine on the Rudolph Claim.

This will be an easy, leisurely paced hike to savor the wonders of some of the old growth forest at Mt. Rainier National Park. We'll hike up to the old mine and then hike the 1/2 mile Rain Forest Loop at the park entrance, for a total of 3.5 miles. We'll make lots of stops to enjoy the ambiance, take pictures, catch our breath, adjust equipment, have a snack, whatever.
