Umtanum Creek TH

Located in eastern Washington along the Yakima River south of Ellensburg this trail is part of the Lt. Murray Wildlife Area developed by Fish and Wildlife. (See website for directions and information.) It is open for hiking May 1st and Discover Pass is required. Wonderful Spring hike for canyon and upland desert flora and fauna. Follow the creek for a short while and take a left following an old road to the top of the ridge. Travel along the ridge to a deserted cabin which is a good turnaround point.

I will probably camp at the TH (rustic WFW) as the drive is long, but the rewards are great. We can see sheep, deer, loads of eastern wa. birds, cactus and lovely wildflowers in this sunny side of the state. Bring binoculars, field book, lunch, water and 10 essentials. Prepare for chilly morning and windy, but usually warm and sunny by afternoon. DISCOVER PASS REQUIRED.
