Spend a few hours practicing self-belay and ice axe arrest under the guidance of experienced Mountaineers instructors and trip leaders. There is no Clinic Fee.

NOTE: This clinic is for those who have already completed training on ice axe arrest and would like to refresh their skills.

By request, we will be holding a practice day on safely arresting falls. We'll spend the morning until lunchtime practicing self-belay and self-arrest techniques. Please review pages 340-344, Freedom of the Hills - 8th edition, beforehand.

Bring snowshoes as well as expendable rain pants and parka (in case of damage from snow, ice, and gear). Rain gear will be needed to overcome the sliding resistance of likely soft snow in addition to keeping you reasonably dry. A change of cloth... More
