Ski touring weekend, with backcountry snow camping. Depart from Smith Brook Road trailhead in Stevens Pass, initial tour to Rainy Pass (3.5 miles) to set up camp aside Union Peak. Ski tours from camp to summits of Jove Peak and/or Union Peak, depending on snow and stability conditions. Overnight gear: sleeping bag rated 20 degrees F or better, sleep pad, backpacking stove and 4-season tent (or bivy sack to use in snow shelter). Beacon, shovel, probe. 10- essentials.
