Mountaineers John Wayne Trail Ski Leader Notes: Get out your cross country boots, poles and skis and get some great exercise before the Holidays! Ski south alongside Lake Keechelus on the John Wayne Trail at your own pace for 90 minutes have some lunch and then head back to the Iron Horse Snopark. The trail is flat and normally groomed. Some instruction available from the leader. Nordic classic skis or skate skis required. If you don't have you own these can be rented from REI. This trip is suitable for relative beginners and others who prefer groomed flat trails. We will car pool from Preston P&R on I-90 and all vehicles taken to the trailhead will require a WA Snopark Pass with special groomed trails sticker. Day passes can be normally be purchased at the snopark. You will also need the WA State Discover Pass. However, if you plan to ski regularly from snoparks an annual non-motorized pass is recommended for $80 (covers all occupants of the vehicle and you don't need the Discover Pass): https://fortress.wa.gov/parks/ecomm/sno/dsnostp0.asp to order on-line or from outlets like REI for a few $s more. Directions to Preston P&R Preston P&R is off I-90, exit 22. If you're headed east on I-90, take exit 22. At the top of the off ramp turn left and cross over the freeway. Shortly past the freeway there's a stop sign. Turn left (patience required here), and then turn left again (in just a few yards) into the Park and Ride. Approaching from westbound I-90 at exit 22 also works.
