Ushani Nanayakkara

This is a strenuous trail to some of the most beautiful scenery in Mount Rainier NP. Recommended for experienced hikers who like endurance challenges.
Elevation includes 3485 out and 1420 back. High point 5930. Indian Bar - 5100. There are big steep dips both ways. Start at Box Canyon TH at the Wonderland Trail sign. Note the TH parking is just east of the picnic parking. Walk through the forest past Nickel Creek Camp. Switch back to a well signed intersection. Head north up Cowlitz Divide. 360 views of the trail high spots are great. Then the trail descends steeply into Indian Bar to a wonderful spot along the Ohanapecosh River. Be sure to check out the bridge at Wauhaukaupauken Falls. Shelter, camp sites, privy latrine. Snow-free season is short - about Aug - mid October. Some portions of the trail will be rushing streams during snow melt.
